Vegan and Vegetarian Diets

As I mentioned in my last blog post I would still be on the topic of diets. This week I am going to be taking about vegan diets and vegetarian diets. What both diets have in common is that they do not consume any animals products. Did you know that there are 5 types of vegan diets and 5 types of vegetarian diets but a vegan diet or “veganism” is also a vegetarian diet. So lets jump straight to it.

5 Types of Vegan Diets ( Remember Vegan diets to not use any animal products)

  • Junk- Food Vegans – Now I found this to very interesting because you wouldn’t think that someone that is vegan would eat “junk” food but there are a lot of vegan products that can still be considered unhealthy depending on what you choose such as vegan ice cream, vegan, fries, chips, frozen dinners
  • Raw-Food Vegans – These vegans only eat foods that are raw or cooked below 118 degrees F, some of those raw foods include: raw nuts and seeds, raw nut butters, raw nut milks, seaweed, and sauerkraut. Methods of cooking for those that are raw food vegans include juicing, blending, soaking, and sprouting they chose these methods of cooking because the foods lose less nutrients when cooked at a lower temperature.
  • Dietary Vegans- Dietary Vegans follow a plant based diet but other products such as for food, hair, or skin
  • Whole Food Vegans – These vegans eat whole foods such as nuts, fruits, vegetables , and legumes
  • Low Fat Raw Food Vegans- These vegans limit high fat as coconuts, nuts, and avocados and mostly eat fruits. They are referred to as fruitarians.

The next thing I am going to talk about are Vegetarian diets. There are 5 Vegetarian diets:

  • Vegan – I started off with vegan since we just reviewed vegan diets. As we know Vegans do not eat any animal or dairy products
  • Lacto-vegetarian – These vegetarians do not eat eggs, poultry, fish, or meat but they do eat dairy products such as yogurt, milk, cheese, and butter
  • Ovo-vegetarian – These vegetarians exclude all animal products but they do eat eggs
  • Lacto-ovo vegetarians – These vegetarians do not eat meat but they do eat eggs and milk
  • Pescatarians – Pescatarians do not eat meat, eggs , poultry, or dairy but they do eat fish

That is the overview of Vegan and Vegetarian diets, they both have many similarities but slight differences in what can actually be consumed. Do you currently follow any of these diets or lifestyles? Leave a comment down below let me know!

Planning A Party During COVID-19

My husband and I had the special task of planning out a special day. My son’s first birthday party! The challenge was how were we going to do it in compliance with all the Guidelines for COVID 19.

The good thing was that we had planned to have it outdoors at a park so that was perfect for social distancing,  which we visited before hand so we could know how much space we were working with. We couldn’t actually reserve any spaces so we just had to hope that the section we wanted wouldn’t be taken the day of the party ( which it wasn’t thank goodness!)

All DIY

We decided on a DIY babyfirst themed party because my son loves babyfirst tv. We didn’t want to have to spend such a large amount of money so we decided to do things ourselves.  Supplies was pretty simple because most things we already had on hand such as crayons , markers,  and pencils. Other supplies we needed were canvas holders, canvas, black printer ink, and color ink. Ballons , food trays, cupcake holders,  hand sanitizer,  napkins, paper towels, and cardstock paper. We also got banner paper to create our own banner. We went to stores micheals crafting , dollar tree, and amazon online for supplies.

We wanted to keep things pretty much contact less so there was too much touching going on and everyone had the option to take their food tray home or their cupcakes home.  We also reserved a table and set up a handwashing station so that everyone was able to wash their hands. For this we used hand sanitizer , hand washing soap and a spray bottle filled with water to wash off the soap and paper towels.

For the desserts I made the cupcakes myself and was able to put each cupcake in a cupcake holder so that they were not left out in the open. We pretty much kept the cake covered until it was time to cut the cake.

For food we kept it simple and only had six dishes rice and beans, chicken party wings , fried chicken, mac and cheese, fried fish, and salad which my family was able to help me prepare. As for drinks they were served as is we did not have cups to minimize contact and touching.

All in all the party turned out great and everyone was able to social distance which was a relief for me. We had the right number of people and were able to carry out the party safely.

Below I will share links for items that I used ( these links are affiliate links )

Stay safe everyone!

Acid Re-flux Update

Image Source: Google Search / Stocklib.com
Hey guys how are you all doing? I hope you are doing well, staying safe, and healthy during these times.

I just wanted to update on my acid re-flux.  To start I can say it has almost been a full year since I have taken any acid re-flux medication. I stopped taking prilosec when I found out I  was pregnant and even after giving birth last October I never continued with prilosec and zantac was being pulled off shelves due to that fact that it was found it could cause cancer.
Even though I haven’t been on any medications does not my re-flux has resolved. I still get re-flux symptoms but they have been stable and mild. If you have acid re-flux it is important to make sure that you don’t sweep it under the rug. That’s what I did many years ago and then it just kept getting worse and worse from that point. I haven’t had a major re-flux episode (acid hitting my throat) since 2017 and I want to keep it that way. I also want to continue to help you all on your journey.

The re-flux journey is not an easy one but it takes a lot of time to get better and you must evaluate the foods the you are eating which are your trigger foods. As we know many foods are acidic then alkaline so you have to find the right balance in order to minimize those symptoms.
I am excited to be back and to continue to help you all on this journey!

Blogmas Day 12- Oh Baby!

Me and Baby Boy

This year I was blessed with one of the greatest gifts I found out I was expecting and the baby was arriving this same year! . I was excited and nervous at the same time. As much as I felt I had experience with children such as babysitting my younger cousins and watching them grow up there is nothing like having your own child.  Then you begin to wonder what your child will be like , how will their personality be ?

There is no instruction manual that can fully prepare you to become a parent. For some reason I thought that babies just sleep all day 😩😩😩😩 boy was I wrong! My baby boy was born in October and when I tell you first month was rough , it was rough.  Shortly after arriving back home from the hospital the baby was sound asleep peacefully then once night hit my husband and I were up for hours. We couldn’t figure out how to calm him down everything we did changing him, soothing him, and feeding him nothing worked. We were more than sleep deprived. We soon figured out that our baby boy was colic. I had heard the term but didn’t quite know exactly what it meant. Then I learned that it is the term for when a baby cries for more than 2 hours straight.

Then we started to get nervous because people were telling us “colic” could last for up for up to three months or more. Then at his first doctor’s visit the doctor told us “colic ” is not really a real diagnosis or condition but just a term. We soon figured out that the reason he might be fussy is because he has gas and his digestive system was very sensitive. He was not being breastfed so we tried changing his formula to something more gentle and that seemed to help a lot.

One thing to remember is that babies have to get used to being outside the womb after being in there for nine months. They do not know the difference between day and night, so during the day they sleep and during the night they may be a bit more cranky.

Now at  two months my son is currently much better and started to develop a routine even though the routine is not permanent we are happy he is doing much better!

Oh Baby!!!!

Blogmas Day 11 – Let’s Talk Skincare

This blog post topic can be quite tricky taking care of skin aaahhhhhh! Over the years when it comes to taking care of my skin I haven’t been the best but I haven’t been the worst. One thing for sure that I know about my face is that it is oily and because it is oily my pores tend to clog easily and that is when breakouts occur.

So for me taking care of my skin is very important. Other than my face being oily the rest of my skin gets very dry and itchy especially during the winter months , moisturizing is high on my list or else I’ll be itching all day!

Everyone is different and what works for me may not work for someone else. I have heard people say they keep their skin routine very basic as just using soap and water and that’s it.

During my pregnancy my skin changed a lot and now I am trying to get back on track with maintaining clear skin.

I try to keep my skin routine as simple as possible without using too many products. One important thing that I probably don’t need to emphasize but I will is to drink water. Water detoxifies our bodies and hydrates our cells in return hydrating our skin and flushing away all those toxins. You should at least aim to drink 8 glasses per day. During pregnancy drinking water increases to 10 to 12 glasses per day.

Here are some of the basic products you should be using to take care of your skin:

  • Facial Exfoliant
  • Facial Toner
  • Soap
  • Facial Moisturizer
  • For your body a lotion based moisturizer or an oil based moisturizer

Currently I am using Clean and Clear deep action exfoliating scrub for my face then I follow that with a natural soap that usually has Shea butter in it. I use the soap for my face and body than I get ready to put back moisture into my skin because many soaps can dry out your skin so don’t skip this step.

Currently to moisturize my face I am using Vitamin C and Coconut Oil. For my body I am using EOS cucumber body lotion or I use Aveeno.

I put this under and around my eyes and also all over my face moisturizes my face

This is what I use in the first step of washing my face

After applying Vitamin C , I add Coconut Oil for Moisture

Cheers to taking care of your skin!
